Japanese company to launch the human washing machine
Imagine stepping into a washing machine—not for your clothes, but for you! That’s exactly what Science Co., a shower manufacturer based in Osaka, has created with their groundbreaking invention, the “Mirai no Sentakuki” (Human Washing Machine of the Future). This isn’t the first time Japan has experimented with human washing machines, but this new version takes the concept to a whole new level!
Back in the 1970 Osaka Expo, tech giant Sanyo Electric Co. (now Panasonic) wowed the world with the first-ever human washing machine. Its egg-shaped design and bubble-cleaning technology drew massive crowds, including a curious fourth-grader named Yasuaki Aoyama. Fast forward to today, and Aoyama is the driving force behind Science Co.’s modern take on this iconic invention.
“We want to bring back the legacy of the 1970 Expo with our new human washing machine,” Aoyama recently told reporters. The updated model will debut at the 2025 Osaka Kansai Expo, and it’s packed with futuristic features.
What’s New in the Human Washing Machine?
The original 1970 machine used giant air bubbles to clean users and plastic balls for a relaxing massage. But Science Co.’s version is way more advanced. It uses microscopic air bubbles for a deeper clean, AI technology to detect your mood (calm or excited), and even projected images on the transparent cover to help you relax.
Here’s how it works: You step into the cabin-like machine, sit in the central seat, and the chamber fills partially with warm water. Millions of tiny bubbles then get to work, gently cleaning your body. It’s like a high-tech spa experience!
Science Co. plans to let 1,000 people try out the machine during the 2025 Expo. They’ve been working on this project for years, and while the design has evolved since the first prototype in 2022, the goal has always been to launch in 2025.
The original Sanyo machine was a symbol of Japan’s innovative spirit in the 1970s. Now, Science Co. is carrying that legacy forward with cutting-edge technology.
