Japan is synonymous with technology, so it’s no surprise that one of the biggest camera and imaging tech shows in Asia is held every year in the beautiful Port City of Yokohama, adjacent to Tokyo. This area offers a vibrant waterfront area with the futuristic architecture of Minato Mirai overlooking Tokyo Bay. It is here, in these serene settings, that the who’s who in the camera world present their latest offerings to the public for their first hands on experience.

We are here once again, front and centre to bring you a first look at some of the new offerings by the likes of Nikon, Canon, Fuji, Sony, etc.

We had a brief 2 hours to check out some of the new gear during  Press Time, but keep your eyes peeled on our page for daily updates, reports, and videos from the show floor.

Quick First day Overall Impressions

Canon: New entry-level mirrorless camera (EOS M50) sure to be a hit with consumers – especially with its 4K video abilities; but still leaves pros wanting more.

Sony: Alpha A7 III Full-Frame Mirrorless.  Amazing Auto-Focus performance, 4K Video capabilities, and features list heavily borrowed from the Alpha 9, but at a consumer-level price point; Affordable full-frame mirrorless is here, giving Sony a leg up on the competition!

Nikon: There were no significant announcements this time, but we were informed that they are working on a mirrorless camera for the 2018-2019 fiscal year.

Fujifilm: The X-H1 provides a nice upgrade in form and function in both video and photo handling for professionals, compared to previous cameras.

That’s it for this brief look at the world-premier cameras at the CP+ 2018.  We’ll be back tomorrow to bring you more coverage of this exciting event.  For now we’re walking back to the hotel from the show with a major case of G.A.S (Gear Acquisition Syndrome. 😀 ) and are looking forward to a more in-depth look at these cameras tomorrow.
